Sing to the Lord

Music

From our youngest musicians to the adult choir — there is a place for every voice and instrument.

We welcome new musicians. Training is available for pianists moving to the organ, and we welcome other instruments. Children can sing, play, cantor and song-lead throughout the year.

The Seedlings

Seedlings is our junior choir. They lead the singing at Junior Youth Masses — held on the second Sunday of each month (excluding January and December) at the 5.30pm Mass at St Joseph’s.

Children from years 4–8 who love to sing are warmly invited. It is a great way to serve the parish and to grow in confidence leading worship.

Growing musicians

The Mustard Seeds

The Mustard Seeds is one of our parish music groups for young people ready to take the next step in leading song at Mass. Contact the Music Coordinator for current rehearsal times and how to join.

Song-Leaders / Cantors

Cantors and song leaders are rostered and prepare weekly for all New Plymouth Masses. Practice times are twice a month, with a microphone and accompanist.

If you enjoy singing and would like to help the congregation find its voice, we would love to hear from you.

Choral music

Adult Choir

The choir at St Joseph’s Church often leads the congregational singing and also sings special choral music in keeping with the liturgies.

At Our Lady Help of Christians, Bell Block and St Patrick’s, we invite all who enjoy singing to prepare for special occasions.

At Easter and Christmas we gather singers to form a bigger choir to support these large Masses. Rehearsals are held in the weeks leading up. If you love singing but cannot commit to a regular roster, this group may be for you.

Little Angels

For our smallest musicians! This group is aimed at preschoolers. We meet every Monday morning during the school term at Our Lady Help of Christians, where we share a hot drink, something to eat, a play with the toys, plenty of conversation and a music session.

There is no pressure — the music session is very fluid. Children are encouraged to join in, but there is no expectation they have to. In the warmer months we sometimes spill out into the sandpit area at the school next door.

If a no-pressure, relaxing start to the week sounds like your whānau, come and join us. Contact Tess on 027 583 7732.
